Dr. Schär

Project: Field100

Mission for the most biodiverse field ever

Field100 is an exploratory project to find solutions to preserve biodiversity and protect global food security in the face of climate change. To celebrate Dr. Schär’s centenary, we saw an opportunity to tackle the future’s sustainability issues rather than celebrating the achievements of the past.

01The challenge

Dr. Schär – global leader in gluten-free and special nutrition – wanted to celebrate 100 years of inclusive and socially responsible nutrition.

02The solution

Our strategy was to show commitment to the next century by embarking on an exploratory project that can help us understand how to face climate change and preserve agricultural biodiversity.

A commitment to the next century

Field100 celebrates the organization’s birthday by embarking on an exploratory project that can help us understand how to face climate change and preserve agricultural biodiversity. 100 diverse, gluten-free, minor crops were planted in the field in South Tyrol, Italy. The public was able to take “field trips” to learn about biodiversity or visit the field online via a live, solar powered camera system.

03The impact

Results beyond communications objectives

Field100 has already achieved a reach of 19M in organic consumer media and over 8M social media impressions, engaging everyone from policy makers to the agricultural industry to schoolchildren and the wider public. The results helped us protect and preserve biodiversity to better face climate change, identifying crops that could be a viable alternative to local crops in times of a changing climate.
