We’re seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Manager, Earned Media with lifestyle and food & beverage expertise to join our Integrated Media team in Toronto.  The ideal candidate is passionate about the latest consumer trends and has a deep enthusiasm for media and creator outreach, pitching, and building relationships. You are deeply immersed in what’s happening in culture and understand the role brands have to play within it. As a Manager, you will have the opportunity to work on top-tier consumer brands, bringing creative stories to life and executing high-energy consumer events.

What You Will Be Doing

Shape Integrated Media Strategy:

  • You will play an important role in shaping the media strategy for our clients, specifically in the food and beverage space. You will help to design integration across earned media—inclusive of traditional media, emerging media (e.g., Substack), and social media, by creating programming built to be shared and amplified across platforms.

Strategic Media & Influencer Relations:

  • Serve as a key day-to-day client contact, developing strategic media and influencer campaigns, action plans, and compelling story angles that resonate with target audiences.
  • Generate a consistent pipeline of story ideas, draft engaging media materials, and proactively pitch to land high-impact earned coverage, leveraging your network of media and influencer contacts.
  • Develop and manage targeted media and influencer lists, incorporating a diverse mix of voices (influencers, streamers, social media editors, creators, etc.) to achieve client goals.

Client and IAT Collaboration:

  • Develop a strong understanding of the client’s business and objectives, working collaboratively with strategists and creative teams to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Work with members of an IAT to ensure collobaration between media, PR and marketing agencies and clients, and bring an earned-first perspective to the work.

Trend-Spotting & Creative Ideation:

  • Maintain a keen interest in current industry trends, constantly monitoring the cultural landscape, competitor coverage, and influencer conversations to identify opportunities.
  • Analyze and distill meaningful insights from media coverage, sharing perspectives with both internal teams and clients to inform strategy.
  • Support proactive ideation on a consistent basis, contributing fresh ideas for evergreen stories and campaigns.

Program Management:

  • Develop and manage timelines, project budgets, and weekly status updates to ensure all program deadlines are met.
  • Anticipate and proactively offer solutions for executional issues that may arise during a program.

Team & Agency Leadership:

  • Serve as a role model and guide for junior team members, helping to develop their skills and drive results.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations
  • 4-6 years’ relevant PR and industry experience
  • Media relations experience in Canada

Salary Range: CAD $65,000 – CAD $80,000

What You Will Be Doing  

  • Develop a strong understanding of the client’s business and target audience, and work with strategists and creative team members to deliver innovative and integrated programs that earn attention
  • Generate story ideas and topic angles, draft media materials, and pitch media to land earned coverage
  • Monitor media outlets, understand industry issues that directly and indirectly affect the client, and analyze and distill meaningful insights from media coverage
  • Support executive visibility efforts for clients including identifying, pitching and securing interviews and speaking engagements for C-suite
  • Develop strategic messaging for clients and support the creation of media plans and proposals that take an integrated approach to driving awareness with target audiences
  • Provide thoughtful recommendations for content creation and distribution across multiple channels to support paid, owned and earned channels
  • Oversee client activations and programs including cultural/sporting events (e.g. Super Bowl, World Cup, Olympics, etc.)
  • Counsel, coach and develop junior staff 
  • Lead logistics planning for media and other influencer events
  • Support the development of KPIs to maximize media relations impact

  • Working knowledge of and comfort executing new media forms (e.g. podcasts, Substack, etc.)
  • Drafting media materials, including pitches and press releases
  • Optimizing programs in real-time to maximize success based on preliminary results
  • Amplification of strategies, including paid, owned and earned
  • Ability to plan, organize, monitor and control projects and programs, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and creative resources

We Are Seeking

We are seeking an Account Director to join our Media Relations team within our Health Practice. As a Director, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of media relations as a key member of integrated client teams.  You’ll shape communications strategies, craft earned media approaches, and organize best-in-class media outreach that drive results and positive impact.  You’ll bring experience working in the health industry with a proven track record of managing branded and unbranded campaigns with media and third parties.

A critical role in our client teams and in our health practice, you’ll be a go-to client contact and supervise large workstreams, junior team members and work to connect dots across business.  Other responsibilities include shaping earned-first creative concepts, recommending programs and activities, coordinating with clients’ goals, effectively delegating projects, offering counsel to team members, and allocating agency resources to match client budgets.

Beyond client work, you’ll also engage in our business development process and support activities that support the development of our health media relations function. 

The following is a general outline of primary responsibilities.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Day-to-day client support and counsel
