POSITION PROFILE

We are currently seeking an Account Director to join our team in Toronto with in-depth tech and/or telecom experience. In this role, you’ll help lead some of our biggest consumer and B2B technology accounts, while building strong client relationships and driving results.

This role is responsible for driving the success of client relationships; developing a deep understanding of their businesses to develop programs that deliver tangible results for them.

You would be responsible for working with cross-functional teams in the planning and executional oversight of strategic earned media and digital initiatives, including the development of campaigns, content creation and measuring the effectiveness of our initiatives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and manage day-to-day relationships with key clients as their “go-to” at Weber Shandwick
  • Own responsibilities for executional leadership of multiple client programs, budgets, timelines and plans
  • Assist in the development of long-term client plans and program recommendations, developing budgets and generating recommendations
  • Drive development of end-to-end campaign plans, translating strategies into tactics; ensure team deliverables align with strategies
  • Proactively support and suggest improvements to exceed client expectations by leveraging industry knowledge and experience
  • Manage ongoing team resourcing/staffing to ensure successful delivery of work
  • Develop and manage timelines and weekly action plans to ensure all deadlines on client programs are met
  • Build and own productive relationships with multiple stakeholders (e.g. brand managers), interagency teams, and a diverse array of agency colleagues
  • Maintain profitability and financial health of client relationships
  • Motivate the team by bringing a positive, solutions-focused attitude to everything you do
  • Lead a high-performing team and mentor junior team members


KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8-10 years of communications experience, ideally with a focus on technology and/or telecom industries
  • Agency experience (strongly preferred) and/or experience with leading tech brands
  • Excellent knowledge of the Canadian media and social landscape
  • Are both a creative and a strategic thinker
  • A track record in building strong client relationships and leading teams that deliver results
  • Proven experience building teams, empathetically managing and mentoring junior staff and working as a team-player in a cross-functional setting

Salary Range: CAD $95,000 – CAD $130,000

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Help develop and execute innovative and award-winning integrated PR campaigns for major Canadian and global brands
  • Work with the Integrated Media team and client leads to support the development and execution of social media and influencer strategies and proposals
  • Identify and build relationships with media, influencers and content creators to bring our clients’ stories to life through trusted and relatable voices
  • Identify new outlets and platforms, and creative ways to propel earned-first storytelling for our clients
  • Monitor media outlets, understand industry issues that directly/indirectly affect our clients, and analyze and distill meaningful insights from media coverage and social conversations
  • Monitor issues and help develop strategic messaging for potential client reputational risks
  • Develop and track meaningful KPIs to measure success of campaigns and return on investment for our clients
  • Liaise with clients and support communication efforts, including the preparation of account management materials such as timelines, activity reports, and documentation
  • Manage internal and external deadlines, and deliver contact reports, and media monitoring summaries
  • Participation in office-wide initiatives, seminars and meetings to further professional learning and development

Key Qualifications:

  • Approximately 2-3 years of experience, ideally in an agency, communications or marketing environment
  • Digitally savvy, with a good understanding of the overall media and social media landscape
  • Proven ability to garner coverage and conversation on behalf of brands, organizations, companies or other institutions
  • Familiarity with media and/or influencer databases, journalist-led tools and resources
  • A working style that is self-motivated, well-organized and resilient to ever-changing timelines, requests and deliverables
  • Strong written, verbal communication, presentation, collaboration and problem-solving skills

A degree in communications or a related discipline

Salary Range: CAD $55,000 – CAD $65,000

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Account Director, Client Experience to join our award-winning team in Toronto. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to take on an exciting role that blends client strategic oversight and leadership and partnering with integrated media, strategy and creative leaders. You will be instrumental in driving success for a portfolio of leading consumer, travel, and CPG brands, with a specific focus on the Canadian market.

You’ll be responsible for spearheading creative, award-worthy campaigns that resonate with key audiences, ensuring our clients capture cultural relevance and media attention. Your remit includes client strategy, operations, and activation oversight, with opportunities to leverage key opinion former and influencer endorsements and marquee events. The right candidate will play a major role in talent development and building team culture.

Additional responsibilities include aligning programs and experiences with client goals, allocating agency resources to match budgets, managing a variety of work streams, providing strategic counsel to teams, and ensuring timely delivery of remarkable work. You will also be instrumental in developing new business opportunities, media relations strategies, analytics insights, and creative storytelling concepts. Ideally, you bring prior experience in consumer, travel and aviation, and CPG and lifestyle industries.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Serve as the strategic lead and primary point of contact for a portfolio of key clients in the consumer, travel, and CPG sectors.
  • Ability to turn dynamic in-culture ideas into actionable, high-impact campaigns
  • Capacity to lead and inspire account teams while owning key projects
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and the ability to manage high-pressure environments with grace
  • Develop and execute innovative, integrated communications strategies that drive business results and build brand equity.
  • Provide senior-level counsel to clients, offering insights and recommendations on everything from brand positioning to crisis support.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage complex, multi-dimensional projects within set parameters and deadlines
  • Reliable judgment when working with clients, stakeholders, and vendors
  • Genuine passion for consumer, travel and aviation and CPG, with an ability to anticipate both client and team needs in these fast-paced, ever-evolving spaces
  • Lead and mentor a team of talented communications professionals, fostering their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with integrated agency teams (IATs), including creative, strategy, and media, to deliver holistic solutions for clients.
  • Drive new business development, identifying opportunities to expand our client base and grow our presence in the Canadian market.

What We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in public relations, with a focus on consumer, travel, and/or CPG brands.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and executing strategic communications programs that deliver measurable results.
  • Deep understanding of the Canadian media landscape and experience working with Canadian media and influencers.
  • Experience in the travel and airline industry, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in consumer brand and CPG industry, with a passion for creating culturally relevant and engaging campaigns.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to see the big picture and translate business objectives into actionable communications strategies.
  • Experience working in a highly integrated environment, with a strong understanding of how to collaborate with creative, strategy, and media teams.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a passion for mentoring and developing talent.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to articulate a clear and compelling point of view.
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial spirit, with a desire to take on new challenges and drive growth.
