Weber Shandwick Tokyo is seeking a Manager, Senior Manager, or Account Director (title commensurate with experience and potential) to join our expanding Healthcare Practice. This role is ideal for a communications professional with hands-on healthcare PR experience, looking to step up into strategic leadership, client advisory, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will partner with senior leaders to deliver integrated, multichannel communication strategies that go beyond traditional media relations — helping leading healthcare companies raise awareness, build trust, and support better outcomes for patients and society. You’ll translate complex scientific topics into engaging narratives that resonate across media, digital, and stakeholder landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support the strategic planning and execution of integrated healthcare communication programs across multiple channels
- Serve as a day-to-day contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring timely and high-quality project delivery
- Translate complex scientific and regulatory content into clear, audience-relevant materials for product, corporate, and digital use
- Develop and present communication strategies and proposals for new and existing clients
- Strengthen media engagement and identify earned/owned opportunities across platforms
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to manage project timelines and deliverables
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to building a collaborative and high-performing team culture
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in healthcare-related communications, either in-house or at a PR or advertisement agency; experience in multinational environments is preferred
- Proven ability to propose communication or marketing strategies to clients and lead project execution
- Solid experience in media relations and understanding of Japan’s media landscape
- Understanding of Japan’s healthcare industry and regulatory environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with client-facing experience
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English proficiency (spoken and written)
- Strategic, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset with a passion for learning and growth
- Strong interest in leveraging communication to make a meaningful impact in healthcare

What Will You Be Doing?
- Brand and Reputation Building: Support the development and execution of communications and marketing activities. Strengthen local brand visibility through media engagement, leadership positioning, and storytelling aligned with APAC and global narratives.
- Content and Campaign Development: Develop high quality content including press releases, leadership messages, case studies, web updates, social content, newsletters, event materials, and internal communications. Coordinate local marketing initiatives, industry events, and speaking engagements.
- Awards and Creative Excellence: Lead regional award submissions, support in market entries, and develop case study materials, decks, and collateral. Manage amplification across owned and external channels.
- Digital and Website Management: Manage updates to website content including work portfolios, case studies, team updates, and award wins. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with regional messaging.
- Work closely with local and regional leadership team to support visibility and brand positioning. Maintain productive relationships with media, industry partners, and internal regional teams.
Who Are You?
- Five to six years of experience in communications and marketing
- Strong writing and communication skills in Japanese and English
- Experience in content development, brand reputation management, and integrated campaigns
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, cross market environment
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail

- Leads/manages multiple integrated work streams and partners with mid-level clients to deliver on time/on budget work plans with minimal

Who Are You?
- 5–7 years of experience in public relations, sustainability communications, ESG, corporate reputation, or integrated communications — ideally within a PR or consulting agency.
- A strong interest in (or background working with) sustainability, social impact, ESG initiatives, purpose-driven campaigns, or organizations driving positive change.
- Native-level Japanese communication skills with strong written and verbal English proficiency, enabling effective collaboration with global and regional teams.
- Comfortable leading cross-market collaboration and translating global sustainability strategies into locally relevant, actionable communication programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously, with a high level of attention to detail and accountability.
- A confident, thoughtful communicator who can guide clients, mentor junior staff, and contribute proactively as a collaborative team player.
- Familiarity with digital, social, and key opinion leaders’ engagement as it relates to sustainability storytelling and purpose-led campaigns in the Japanese market.

About The Opportunity:
Weber Shandwick is currently seeking an ambitious senior-level Corporate PR professional for our Tokyo office to oversee key accounts. In this role, you will cultivate strong relationships with clients both domestically and internationally, serving as the lead for account and team management, overseeing multiple projects and team members.
Responsibilities include proposing communication programs and specific activities aligned with client goals, ensuring effective project execution, providing career development and learning opportunities for junior team members, and allocating resources in line with client budgets. Along with building strong relationships with our current clients, your responsibilities will also include contributing to new business development.

What You Will Do:
- Manage relationships with key corporate Japan clients seeking support with “Go Global” communications
- Build trust and develop a deep understanding of clients’ business and target audience, collaborating with team members to provide solutions that meet client needs
- Focus on deepening and improving ongoing relationships with existing clients and actively participate in opportunities to build portfolio of new “Go-Global” Japanese clients
- Comprehend clients’ objectives and communications priorities, devising and executing PR and Communications strategies accordingly
- Foster and nurture strong relationships with the media, and arrange interviews and meetings with the media and key client spokespeople as appropriate;
- Cultivate positive relationships with junior members and nurture their organisational and professional development through hands-on support and mentorship;
- Actively participate in office activities, meetings, seminars, etc., to cultivate strong internal working relationships and enhance collaboration opportunities.
What You Will Need:
- Native-Level Japanese / Business-Level English (Ability to conduct business smoothly);
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Corporate Communications;
- Strong experience planning and executing corporate communications PR strategies and tactics;
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing large-scale projects, including international events, media programs, campaigns, and crisis scenarios
- Strong experience with media relations, particularly in the English-speaking world (online, business, general newspapers, magazines, TV programmes, SNS, influencers, etc.);
- Experience in planning and executing multi-channel communications strategies and tactics;
- Ability to efficiently navigate and utilise social media;
- Adept writing skills.
