Weber Shandwick Promotes Tara Murphy to Executive Vice President, Strategy in New England Region 

BOSTON, March 5, 2013 – Weber Shandwick, a leading global public relations firm, has promoted Tara Murphy to the new role of executive vice president for strategy in the New England region.

Based in Boston, Murphy will continue leading the healthcare practice, and will also bring her expertise as a strategist to clients across industries. Additionally, Murphy is co-leading a Healthcare Reform Team to help clients navigate the dramatic changes that are reshaping healthcare.

Throughout her time at Weber Shandwick, Tara has transformed our Healthcare practice into one of our fastest growing practice areas, Her role as a key strategist for many of our clients has been a tremendous asset. I am delighted that in this new position, she will be able to expand her focus.

A seven-year veteran of Weber Shandwick, Murphy joined the firm with more than 15 years of experience in broadcast journalism and politics. She held a number of senior editorial positions at WBUR National Public Radio in Boston, including senior producer for the award-winning NPR talk show The Connection, and managing editor for the national news magazine Here and Now.


Prior to her work in public radio, Murphy served in the second Clinton Administration as the Director of Public Affairs for the national service program, AmeriCorps and its umbrella organization, the Corporation for National and Community Service. There she spearheaded a national media campaign that helped win bipartisan support from members of Congress and governors, and successfully increased funding for the program. She also served as a member of the communications team for the Gore/Lieberman 2000 campaign.


Murphy has a Master’s Degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampshire College.
