Corporate PR Intern (Fall 2024)

Weber Shandwick is seeking an intern to work on the Enterprise team, which counsels a wide range of corporate, financial services, and technology clients. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), paid internship that will start in September and go through December. This role is hybrid out of our New York City office.

From creative brainstorming to day-to-day execution, Weber Shandwick’s interns become an important part of a talented team that generates groundbreaking, award-winning work. During the internship, you’ll work on campaigns for iconic brands and companies you likely encounter every single day.

More about the position:

What you’ll do all day:  

  • Create: Craft written communications including media materials, compelling social content, memos, and risk assessments 
  • Research: Examine brands, industry trends, and various issues using various resources  
  • Analyze: Answer questions, provide insights, and propose recommendations using quantitative and qualitative data 
  • Engage: Share big ideas in brainstorms and with teams
  • Plan: Assist in event coordination and logistics
  • Hustle: Pitch stories to media, develop media lists, track placements, etc.
  • Monitor: Track brands and issues in traditional and social media and analyze conversations; draft reports summarizing conversation to inform client strategies 

What we’re looking for in a candidate:  

  • Thought: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; growth mindset 
  • Communication: Speak, write, and edit succinctly 
  • Digital: Have an understanding of all the old-school and latest social media platforms, what brands are doing on them, and what they should do next
  • Management: Meet deadlines, put out fires, and multi-task. Work fast and work well
  • Detail-oriented: Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering clear,  precise and accurate work are critical
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with platforms like Cision, Muckrack, Meltwater, Talkwalker, Brandwatch, and/or Quid are a plus
  • Dynamic: You must be able to work in a fast-paced agency environment and juggle multiple time-sensitive tasks
  • Spark: Understand what sets you apart and what motivates you

Senior Associate, Influencer Strategy

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and target audiences, and working in close collaboration with our Creative, Insights and Client Experience teams, lead the creation and execution of integrated multi-platform campaigns that drive meaningful results
  • Support building influencer strategies cross-functionally to align strategic efforts and priorities, and able to develop strategic outputs with little to no oversight. Collaborate closely with influencer strategy leads, creative, social, paid and larger integrated agency teams to deliver program initiatives
  • Closely partner with social platform and digital SMEs to stay at the forefront of technology trends and emerging platforms to champion social and digital innovations and continuously further our offerings to break through social clutter and break through in earned media
  • Support the influencer stagey team in providing expert counsel to clients and colleagues on social/digital/influencer best practices as well as agile opportunities
  • Play a role in the agency’s Influencer center of excellence, which develops and manages key relationships with talent agencies and content creators, and institutionalizes a set of best-in-class tools and processes for identification, contract negotiation, content planning, measurement, and ROI analysis
  • Coach and develop junior staff (Associates and interns)

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience, preferably within an agency environment
  • Strong understanding of the overall media and social landscape, with an emphasis on social experience
  • Strong expertise in managing influencer programs
  • Strong knowledge of social platforms, including paid amplification and campaign optimization
  • Familiarity with a broad set of social, media and influencer analytics tools
  • Detail-oriented, multi-tasker with excellent time-management skills
  • Strong written, verbal communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Experience coaching and growing junior staff is an asset

HUSTLE Identify influencer opportunities (organic or new) to ensure influencer marketing continues to be a strong marketing discipline and revenue driver on your assigned account or at Weber Shandwick.

This program is specially designed for university and graduate school students who are eager to delve into the world of Public Relations and Marketing Communications, and to learn about career opportunities at a global public relations agency.

As a member of CRAYONS, you will: 

  • Participate in workshops to learn about the many areas of expertise across the agency: Creative, Digital/IT, Consumer, Corporate Communications, Healthcare – and more. 
  • Participate in group work to learn about how to create a successful client pitch.  
  • See how an idea comes to life through research, agency brainstorms and strategic planning. 
  • Gain organizational and communications skills that will help you navigate any future career. 

Requirements: 

  • University or Graduate School students who hold a Japan Permanent Resident or a Student visa. 
  • Nearly Fluent or Native Japanese, above business level of English. 
  • Interested in Public Relations and Marketing Communications.  
  • Passion for creative thinking, strategy and pushing the boundaries. 
  • Comfortable commuting to our Tokyo office. 

Notes: 

  • The number of applicants is approximately 15 people.  
  • Selection process: (1st stage) application review, (2nd stage) video interview    
  • We will stop accepting applications once all the places are taken. 
  • We do not offer any credits to students who attend this program. Each must cover their expenses, including commuting costs, liability and personal insurance. A bento box will be prepared for 2 days.
