Weber Shandwick, a leading global communications agency, is seeking a talented and an enthusiastic Intern in Washington, DC, to work with our Advanced Data Solutions (ADS) practice.

 

Our Data Engineering internship is a full-time, paid program designed to complement and enhance academic studies through participation in a variety of assignments and professional responsibilities. Interns work side by side with the firm’s diverse team of strategists, analysts, producers, designers, developers and campaign activators.

 

The intern assigned to our ADS team will work on a range of projects from communications reporting and automation to machine learning, and big data integration. You’ll work on clients of all types, using data to solve strategic business and communications problems. As a data engineering intern, you’ll leverage your knowledge and skill to access data from multiple data sources, build scalable and reusable data pipelines and process data that can be easily used for modeling and mining needs.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Understand client background and needs, including general business strategy, industry issues, products and services, key customers and competitors in the marketplace
  • Participate in strategic brainstorming sessions when invited by account leads or supervisors
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements through web scraping or API’s
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale processing systems using tools like Apache Kafka and Apache Spark.
  • Aid in the management of our data warehouse solutions, ensuring the timely and accurate provision of data to stakeholders.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Mine and analyze data to drive optimization and improvement of campaign management, marketing techniques and business strategies
  • Coordinate with different teams to implement models and monitor outcomes

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Availability: 40 hours a week this Summer

 

Additional Qualifications: Ideal Analytics intern candidates will possess some combination of the following. Please note: you do not have to have ALL of these qualifications, just some combination of them, in order to be a viable candidate.

  • Experience with some or all of the following: AWS or GCP platform, Python, SQL, R
  • Experience with extraction and integration of data from multiple data sources
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and data warehousing concepts.
  • Basic understanding of distributed systems and big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau
  • Interest in data-based storytelling
  • Basic understanding of intersection of traditional and digital PR and familiarity with developments in the media industry
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, time-management, and critical-thinking skills
  • Experience working with or interest in web analytics, social and traditional media monitoring, and social media analytics platforms
  • Experience working with or interest in data visualization tools and creative ways to display information
  • Keen eye for data trends and the ability to solve strategic business and communications problems
  • Familiarity with developments in the media industry, plus knowledge of a variety of social platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) and the latest news and trends affecting these channels

Washington D.C. Salary range: $20.00 – $20.00

  • Coach team members to become independent revenue generators

Client Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior clients, providing strategic counsel that extends beyond research to broader business challenges
  • Build deep client relationships across the IPG network, proactively identifying opportunities to expand partnerships

Research Leadership

  • Oversee large-scale and high-profile research projects from conception through final presentation, ensuring strategic alignment with client objectives
  • Guide teams in developing research designs, survey questionnaires, analysis plans, and reporting strategies for complex projects
  • Deliver actionable insights through visually compelling reports and presentations

Team Management

  • Manage and mentor Directors and other senior staff, fostering professional growth and ensuring high levels of engagement and performance
  • Ensure project teams are productive, engaged, and delivering work on time and within budget

We Are Seeking:

We are seeking a strategic thinker with a strong analytical mind to help pull and analyze data, and extract deep insights using the approaches, systems and tools we are designing in-house and have licensed from third parties. You will be able to leverage data to uncover insights and tell compelling stories.

 

The Senior Marketing Analyst will join the team to focus on delivering insightful and impactful analytics core to the marketing and communications objectives of our clients.

 

The position will directly report to and work with the Toronto office but may support teams across all North American practice areas. This position will be dedicated to several of Weber Shandwick’s largest and most important client relationships.  

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Work with Global Intelligence teammates to create visually compelling reporting and insights that allow client to easily evaluate communications, media and/or site performance relative to business objectives.
  • Team up with data scientists and senior intelligence leads to develop reporting, articulating insights and building narratives that move internal and external audiences to act on our recommendations.
  • Leverage a variety of descriptive and inferential statistical methods to analyze data from multiple online sources.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to infuse all aspects of the work with data-driven insights and measurement.
  • Fully utilize tools and platforms designed to automate and accelerate data collection, integration and analysis. Examples: Google Analytics, Domo, Google Data Studio, Tableau, etc.
  • Interrogate multiple sources of information/data to look for trends within social and earned media, using tools such as Talkwalker, Cision, Brandwatch, Quid, and Trendkite.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design and execute media and siteside A/B tests.
  • Manage reporting tasks and data flows for media, site and social listening insights and reporting.
  • Evangelize the use of data to inform decision-making at all levels internally and externally.
  • Derive insights from data to create a compelling narrative that moves internal and external audiences to act on our recommendations.
  • Educate non-technical account team members on key requests and analysis process.
  • Manage and build relationships with clients and internal client experience teams
  • Participate in business development activities

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong interest and capacity to translate data and research into strategic insights and recommendations
  • Passion for working with data and deriving insights to answer client business questions.
  • Experience with social listening tools such as Talkwalker, Quid, Brandwatch, and Trendkite is a plus.
  • Experience with data visualization tools including but not limited to: Tableau, Google Data Studio, Domo, Excel, etc.
  • Able to leverage scripting to automate analyses, data cleansing or data integration tasks.
  • Experience with relational databases and statistical analysis/programming languages such as SAS, SQL, R or Python is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in business or STEM preferred, Masters is a plus.
  • 4-5 years relevant full-time experience; preferably in Marketing Science, Marketing Analytics, Data Science or Performance Marketing fields.
  • Ability to work independently and in an integrated team setting.
  • Strong communication (written and presentation) skills.
  • Commitment to learning and the drive to take initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfort with working in and contributing to a fast-paced, team environment.
