DOVE Chocolate

Project: Mom Experience Translator

Proving mom skills are job skills through AI

DOVE set out to develop a resonant, earned-first concept that would blend its purpose — uplift and empower women, everywhere and everyday — by demonstrating the brand’s commitment to moms and young female professionals amidst the backdrop of Mother’s Day.

01The challenge

The societal stigma around “Mommy Gaps” — a patronizing name for a mother’s time spent away from a career — hinders women seeking to reenter the workforce. In fact, employers often overlook the valuable skills mothers bring to the workplace, many even showing bias against applicants who took time off to care for children — leading to hiring disadvantages and lower wages (Harvard Business Review, 2018). Leaning into DOVE Chocolate’s commitment to empower women, we sought to help fill these gaps without adding to moms’ already full plates.

02The solution

While gifting moms something sweet is a great way to show appreciation, DOVE Chocolate wanted to do more by recognizing and elevating the hard work moms do every single day. To do so, we created a tool to help moms translate time spent raising children into marketable skills that could be highlighted when reentering the workforce.

Converting “Mommy Gaps” into relevant job experience

DOVE Chocolate’s Mom Experience Translator was a groundbreaking AI tool that analyzed the skills moms gain during a “Mommy Gap” — skills like multitasking, crisis management and negotiation — and provided personalized, professional qualification translations that recruiters seek, all packaged in a seamless user experience, regardless of the users’ understanding of AI.

03The impact

Going beyond bouquets and sweets to see the Promise of Moms

During a time of year when moms’ recognition can be reduced to flowers and chocolates, DOVE Chocolate saw a unique opportunity to change the Mother’s Day coverage and conversation from seeing mothers not only as caregivers, but also as professionals whose time away from the workforce was only improved by the experience they gained. Even without paid support, the DOVE Chocolate’s Mom Experience Translator exceeded expectations by kickstarting social conversations among mom influencers, feeding news headlines, including a marquee interview with the Mars Wrigley CMO in Forbes, driving more than 26,600 unique webpage sessions and 14.9K tool entries by moms worldwide and ultimately providing tangible value that empowered and uplifted women.
