A snapshot of the role

We are looking for a mid-level Strategist with a communications or creative agency background to join our Strategic Planning team in Geneva. Reporting to the Head of Strategy, the successful candidate will support the development of insight-based creative ideas and impactful campaigns to support our brand and clients’ communications and business objectives, through integrated communications, including earned, owned and paid.

In this role, you will be involved in all elements of strategy including creating and analyzing data and market trends, shaping market research, developing strategy, solving brand challenges and working closely with creative teams to develop creative ideas. The successful candidate will partner with the wider team, including specialists from analytics, creative, design, production, integrated media and client experience to develop and deliver impactful client solutions. You will play a key role in supporting both new business pitches, organic growth opportunities, and existing client work.

The position is based in Weber Shandwick’s Geneva office working in a multi-disciplinary 30+ team that includes experts in integrated media, content, analytics, and strategy. We are looking for an exceptional candidate who considers him/herself to be a self-starter, approaches life with curiosity, has a strong desire to learn, is solution-focused and has a commitment to delivering the highest quality work.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Writing creative proposals to inspire clients and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the strategy development from ideation through to execution.
  • Providing thorough interpretation of insights from research findings and presenting audience trends.
  • Responsible for identifying various sources of information & insight appropriate to a client problem – whether existing research, behaviour change data, relevant case studies or social listening.
  • Creating messaging frameworks and content territories /pillars, as well as influencing overarching campaign and channel strategies.

 

Who are you?

  • Previous experience in marketing/communications strategy and planning ideally within a strategy department or communications agency.
  • Experience working with multi-national companies and global brands.
  • Fluent in English with strong verbal and written presentation and storytelling skills.
  • A strong communicator who knows how to handle clients with experience pitching new business.
  • Good level of comfort with research techniques and resources to unearth meaningful insights.
  • An analytic and solutions-oriented mindset with strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Naturally curious, a passion for creativity, a knack for abstract thinking, and experience in spotting and applying trends.
  • A team player with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have the right to live and work in Switzerland – international relocation is not offered.
  • Optional: knowledge of the healthcare sector would be appreciated.

This is an exciting role for an experienced and ambitious public relations professional, ideally with a strong agency background to become the go-to, Account Director, within a multi-disciplinary team of health communications specialists. The role will require successfully leading pan-European and global programmes in the health & wellness sector, working for clients such as pharmaceutical organisations, public health foundations, and nutrition brands. The position is based in Weber Shandwick’s Geneva team.

 

Role responsibilities

  • Leads the day-to-day management of tactics/projects within a client programme
  • Provides clear briefs and delegates workload appropriately, managing junior and senior colleagues to make best possible use of time and expertise
  • Proficiently prepares and reviews key materials and client correspondence, and contributes to more complex materials such as plans and new business proposals
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the healthcare regulatory framework, as well as of the major European health systems
  • Demonstrates an excellent knowledge of the key healthcare media outlets and types of healthcare stories that are reported and why
  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with day-to-day clients; is available to the client as necessary and begins to develop a role as a trusted client advisor
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of financial management i.e. fee and costs in order to assist the senior team in developing and monitoring budgets

 

Candidate Profile

  • Track record and experience at Account Director or Senior Account Manager level in an agency environment or in-house communications experience within a healthcare company is essential
  • Experience working on Pan-European or global communications programs in one or more of the following areas: healthcare, consumer health, corporate health, medical device and biotech
  • A solid understanding of current and emerging topics in the healthcare environment
  • An insightful and strategic approach to using traditional, digital and social media
  • Self-starter who is good at finding solutions and is a great team player
  • Native/bilingual in English, other languages a plus

The practice is made up of a smart, dedicated, and fun team members with expertise spanning, Strategic Counsel, Executive Profiling, Corporate Reputation, Corporate Affairs, Crisis/Issues Management, Geopolitics, Investor Relations, and Financial Communications.

This is an exciting role for an ambitious corporate affairs professional with company or agency background to become part of a multi-disciplinary team servicing clients and solving their issues across industries and disciplines, with a focus on corporate communications. The role will require successfully managing pan-European, and global programmes to engage audiences on behalf of our clients.

What will you be doing?

  • Being the senior team contact for clients, building and maintaining proactive and positive relationships.
  • Provide high-level strategic counsel to clients, being able to proactively identify and assess problems, define logical and effective strategies, and implement solutions on their behalf
  • Leading the development of communications plans
  • Lead international and multi-disciplinary teams in the development of both over-arching strategy and creative campaign ideas
  • Driving high-level team performance as well as supporting and guiding the team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work within the stipulated timelines and budgets.
  • Act as a facilitator, bringing in specialist practitioners within the practice and throughout the wider Geneva office to support in the delivery of integrated communications campaigns
  • Lead market co-ordination for Swiss, international and global campaigns
  • Oversee the flawless execution of media/campaign strategies of multiple accounts simultaneously
  • Demonstrate proficiency in understanding communications and business goals, and the ability to link team efforts to these to demonstrate value and impact for clients
  • Stay on top of industry news, trends and influencers in specific industries and be able to link these to your clients’ objectives
  • Work effectively with finance colleagues to support the client lead in client budgeting and resource management, including forecasting, hours allocation for team members, project, and plan budgeting, managing servicing levels
  • Lead in the development and presentation of new business pitches
  • Help with the training and development of junior team members. Contribute to the growth and development of the team through mentoring and coaching.
  • Participate in the growth of the practice at the local, regional, and international level.
  • Proactively identifying new business – establishing opportunities for the organic growth of existing accounts, and securing new business by contributing to pitches
  • Collaborate effectively with Weber Shandwick’s global network to ensure alignment and integration of strategies and activities.

 

Who are you?

  • Significant previous experience in corporate communications and corporate affairs
  • Track record and experience at VP level or equivalent in an agency environment or in-house corporate communications experience is essential.
  • Experience of working on Pan-European and global communications programmes
  • Experience in strategic communications, crisis management, financial communications, and reputation management is essential.
  • Proven track record of managing and growing international client relationships.
  • Excellent English writing proficiency – must be able to write content in native English for different audiences including consumer media, consumers, internal audiences etc.
  • Native/bilingual in English
  • A strategic and growth mindset for our clients’ businesses and a nose for hunting opportunities
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand and align with client business objectives.
  • Self-starter who is good at finding solutions and is a great team player with a natural curiosity and instinctive creative flair.
