Weber Shandwick is seeking a fall intern to work on a range of corporate clients. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), hybrid, paid internship that will start in September and go through December.

From creative brainstorming to day-to-day execution, Weber Shandwick’s interns become an important part of a talented team that generates groundbreaking, award-winning work. During the internship, you’ll work on campaigns for iconic brands and companies you likely encounter every single day.

More about the position:

What you’ll do all day:

  • Create: Craft written communications including media materials, compelling social content, memos, and risk assessments
  • Research: Examine brands, industry trends, and various issues using various resources
  • Analyze: Answer questions, provide insights, and propose recommendations using quantitative and qualitative data
  • Engage: Share big ideas in brainstorms and with teams
  • Hustle: Pitch stories to media, develop media lists, track placements, etc.
  • Monitor: Track brands and issues in traditional and social media and analyze conversations; draft reports summarizing conversation to inform client strategies

 

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Thinking: Do it out of the box. Look for holistic and innovative ways to meet needs and challenges. Foster a curious mind and ask thoughtful questions
  • Communication: Speak, write, and edit succinctly
  • Digital: Know digital platforms (tech, email, CRM, social, etc.), what brands are doing with them and best practices
  • Management: Meet deadlines, put out fires, and multi-task. Work fast and work well
  • Detail-Oriented: Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering clear and precise work are critical
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with platforms like Cision, Muckrack, Meltwater, Talkwalker, Brandwatch, and/or Quid are a plus
  • Dynamic: You must be able to work in a fast-paced agency environment and juggle multiple time-sensitive tasks
  • Spark: Understand what sets you apart and what motivates you

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate must be a college graduate by the start of the internship or have demonstrated transferrable skills
  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week starting September

 

Boston salary range: $20.00 – $20.00

  • Develop a strong understanding of the client’s business and target audience
  • Stay current on new and existing media coverage, as well as reporter moves and how to leverage for relationship building
  • Source earned media results on behalf of the client – this includes identifying appropriate contacts, writing pitches, developing media lists, making follow up calls, etc. and overseeing junior team members with execution
  • Monitor media outlets to understand industry issues that directly and indirectly affect the client
  • Analyze and distill meaningful insights from media coverage
  • Support creative ideation on a consistent basis and provide thoughtful, proactive recommendations for storytelling initiatives

Weber Shandwick is seeking a curious, creative, and media-savvy Senior Manager to join our Public Affairs team in Washington, D.C., as part of Weber Advisory—a unit delivering trusted, agile C-suite counsel by blending communications expertise with cultural insights to accelerate stakeholder and business value. This role will focus on executing communications and public affairs strategies for corporate, public sector, and non-profit clients at the intersection of business, politics, policy, and media.

The ideal candidate is a public affairs professional with a passion for policy, advocacy, and communications. They bring a strong understanding of how Washington, D.C. operates, a proven track record of delivering effective public affairs campaigns, and experience thriving on high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in our D.C. office on a hybrid schedule.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support day-to-day execution of public affairs and communications strategy.  
  • Develop and execute bespoke public affairs plans to meet clients’ policy, legislative, regulatory or reputational needs in a rapidly evolving environment. 
  • Craft messaging, content, and advocacy materials that align with client objectives. 
  • Research, analyze, and provide timely recommendations on a variety of legislative, regulatory, and political developments – and media trends – that impact clients. 
  • Own key pieces of client projects requiring research, writing, analysis, and creative thinking. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, serving as an integral part of ensuring we deliver our best work and exceed client expectations. 
  • Integrate media strategy, paid and social media tactics, and stakeholder engagement to influence policy and legislative outcomes. 
  • Support new business proposal development to expand the agency’s client base. 

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

What We’re Looking For 

  • 5-8 years of professional experience in public affairs or communications agencies, Capitol Hill, Executive Branch agencies, political campaigns, media, advocacy, or similar organizations. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications, research, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Proven track record of working on complex client accounts (or related issues) and delivering successful advocacy and media campaigns. 
  • Fluency in social media and a strong understanding of the new media landscape. 
  • A curiosity for and/or experience in AI tools for research, writing, and brainstorming ideas. 
  • A voracious consumer of news, closely following national politics, public policy, and political culture. 
  • Understanding of federal policymaking, political dynamics, and regulatory processes, as well as what breaks through the media landscape. 
  • Ability to support and mobilize fast-paced, highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • A fast learner who can quickly get up to speed on any public affairs topic. 
  • Resilient mindset, deep curiosity, and a healthy sense of humor. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree. 

Additional Qualifications 

  • A network of contacts and relationships across media, Hill staff, think tanks, and/or other DC stakeholders. 
  • Experience working with new media – influencers, bloggers, Substack writers. 
  • Experience working with clients and policy issues across multiple sectors and industries.

We Are Seeking:

The Weber Shandwick Boston office is currently seeking a Vice President to support several clients in our growing Corporate/Enterprise Practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in brand and reputation building communications, managing executive visibility, media strategy and team leadership. The candidate will have the opportunity to drive a broad range of corporate reputation campaigns across a variety of clients, while leading a team of practitioners and collaborating with Weber Shandwick’s network to develop strategic and creative client work.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Develop and grow positive relationships with clients, maintaining the company’s reputation in terms of delivery and quality
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients where possible, being able to assess problems and define logical and effective solutions for clients
  • Lead the delivery of high-profile accounts across multiple markets
  • Brief and inform account teams. Communicate expectations/goals to the team on an ongoing basis, helping to keep the team motivated by communicating clear tasks and actions
  • Work successfully with partner agencies as part of a client integrated agency team, both internally at WS and externally
  • Work effectively with finance colleagues to deliver accurate quotations for all client projects or new business work
  • Write well-structured, persuasive content and help train other team colleagues to do the same
  • Contribute innovative ideas for the client and new business work, inspiring ideation amongst team members

 Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years public relations experience, corporate PR background desired
  • Agency experience (preferred)
  • Experience working on Corporate reputation campaigns across industries
  • You are both a creative and a strategic thinker, and a natural team leader
  • Needs to have a track record in client service to senior level clients
  • Strategic media relations knowledge
