About the opportunity:  

We are seeking a Senior Manager or Account Director (title commensurate with experience) to join our Corporate Practice in Tokyo. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about communications and client engagement, ready to take on a new challenge in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 

The successful candidate will work across a portfolio of leading Japanese and international brands, developing and executing integrated PR and corporate communications strategies. This person must be fluent in both Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher) and English (TOEIC 800, TOEFL 70 or higher), with strong written and verbal skills in both languages. 

 

Responsibilities:  

 Content Development & Writing 

  • Develop high-quality proposals, corporate profiles, client briefings and other materials in both Japanese and English.
  • Proofread and edit internal and external documents for quality and consistency.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic communications planning. 

Media Relations 

  • Draft and localize media relations materials including press releases, Q&As, and media alerts.
  • Generate media outreach strategies and pitch efforts.
  • Respond to media inquiries with accuracy and speed.
  • Establish and manage relationships with media.
  • Track and stay current on relevant industry events and media opportunities. 

Client Leadership & Strategic Execution 

  • Serve as a key team member managing multiple public relations projects across various clients, from concept to completion.
  • Contribute to the development of tactical plans and cross-community implementations.
  • Successfully meet or exceed client expectations by ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Proactively generate new ideas and tactical suggestions aligned with strategic goals.
  • Participate in client meetings
  • Help build client relationships by instilling confidence and trust at an executional level. 

Project Management & Operations 

  • Manage campaigns and cross-functional teams, ensuring deliverables meet strategic and quality standards.
  • Cross-reference and approve invoices, ensuring accuracy in financial documentation.
  • Track and enter time on a daily basis with precision.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as required for account and team efficiency. 

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of business experience, preferably within an agency/consulting/service-oriented company.
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong project management skills; capable of leading initiatives from start to finish.
  • Excellent business acumen, with the ability to translate complex client needs into actionable strategies.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with quick response times.
  • Creative thinker and strong team player with a collaborative mindset.

  • Tracks and analyzes media coverage using industry-standard measurement and listening tools to identify insights and opportunities for growth.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 1-2 years of business experience, preferably within a service-oriented company.
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong interest in corporate communications, with a particular enthusiasm for agency-side operations 
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with quick response times.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Client Leadership:

PERSON PROFILE

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in public relations or communications, with a strong focus on consumer technology products and services. Agency experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-profile client accounts, particularly in the technology sector, with a history of delivering measurable results.
  • Strong consultant with the ability to understand client needs and deliver tailored solutions that drive success and exceed expectations.
  • Strong experience in engaging KOLs for B2B clients and influencers (YouTubers/Instagrammers) for B2C clients, with a deep understanding of how to leverage these relationships for maximum impact.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences.

About the opportunity:  

Weber Shandwick is currently seeking an ambitious Vice President for our Consumer team to oversee key international accounts. The ideal candidate will enjoy creating integrated marketing and communications strategies, providing high level guidance to advice to clients and be a natural leader and mentor. Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and execution of integrated marketing and communication strategies and tactics for international consumer clients  
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients where possible, being able to assess problems and define logical and effective solutions for clients. 
  • Lead the delivery of high quality earned activity, which includes development of media and channel strategies, story development and management of third parties. 
  • Brief and inform account teams. Communicate expectations/goals to team on an ongoing basis, helping to keep team motivated by communicating clear tasks and actions. 
  • Leading the team and being there to support and advise, working closely with them to motivate and drive performance and provide guidance on their career development.  
  • Development of digital and social strategies – you’ll be working together with the regional digital team to craft integrated ideas and campaigns for clients

Who are you? 

  • At least 8 years of relevant PR and Communications experience, with some PR agency experience and an understanding of Consumer clients.  
  • A brilliant understanding of what makes an earned story – and how to make them travel across multiple channels 
  • An excellent communicator, you build connections and trust quickly with the people around you 
  • Previous experience of managing a team and a natural leader and mentor. You’ll enjoy developing and nurturing talent and be able to quickly identify areas of development and execute training where needed.   
  • Strategic mindset – you will be able to anticipate potential roadblocks and keep ahead of the curve with emerging trends 
  • Proven project management skills, leading multiple teams, as well as interagency, to deliver work that 
  • Strong social and digital acumen – highly competent at developing and executing influencer programs, social listening and wider digital and social strategies 
  • Experience in planning and execution of multi-channel communications strategies and tactics 
  • Fluent in both Japanese and English and a strong  and confident communicator when presenting to clients and dealing with internal stakehdolders.
