About the opportunity:

Weber Shandwick South Korea is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as the Senior Vice President (SVP) OR Executive Vice President (EVP) of Corporate Affairs. As the SVP OR EVP, you will play a critical role in shaping and driving our corporate and public affairs strategies, providing expert counsel on regulatory matters, offering M&A communications consulting, leading business development initiatives, providing invaluable advisory services to C-Suite executives, and leading the corporate communications team working with our key MNCs and large-scale Korean clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Corporate and Public Affairs Leadership:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive corporate and public affairs strategies aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, media outlets, and community groups.
  • Represent the organization in public forums, industry conferences, and media interactions, effectively communicating our vision and positions.
  • Stay up to date with relevant regulatory frameworks and provide expert guidance to internal teams and senior clients on navigating complex regulatory and business landscapes.
  • Effectively navigate global firm resources to bring optimal mix to grow/deepen client engagements, working closely with senior colleagues from the Asia Pacific region and global WS locations
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing corporate communications team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Shape the vision for talent evolution across teams within the corporate practice and group as part of the wider executive committee and leadership team
  • Set clear goals and expectations, provide mentorship and guidance, and ensure the team’s professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of corporate communication initiatives, including media relations, executive communications, and internal communications.

C-Suite Advisory:

  • Provide strategic counsel and guidance to C-Suite executives on communication and reputation management matters.
  • Assist in shaping organizational messaging and positioning, ensuring consistency across internal and external communications.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, offering insights and recommendations on key business decisions.
  • Play a pivotal role in advising clients on communication strategies during mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support M&A activities and manage potential reputational risks.
  • Lead a wide array of high-profile clients with crisis preparedness and live crisis/issue counsel and support.
  • Develop comprehensive communication plans to ensure seamless integration and alignment of messaging across all stakeholders.

Client Service and Project Management: 

  • Manage all aspects of operation for a client engagement from business development, quality control and financial management
  • Professionally manage large scale engagements with other internal teams including creative, digital, analytics and finance focusing on balancing quality, cost and schedule, while exceeding client expectations
  • Facilitate cross-functional or multi-disciplinary teams on roles and responsibilities and processes
  • Manage project deliverables across multiple work streams and independently prioritize as appropriate
  • Introduce and deploy new tools, products and methodologies to elevate the team’s client service capabilities

Business Development:

  • Set the tone and strategy for our standout Corporate Affairs operation, for external and internal positioning in South Korea
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging your network and industry expertise.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to develop compelling proposals and pitch presentations.
  • Lead client engagements, providing strategic counsel and building long-term relationships with key clients.
  • Set and shepherd vision for proactive business growth, global client expansion and innovation of work with all clients, working closely with global and regional teams specializing on global client development & activity oversees.

PERSON PROFILE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in corporate affairs, public relations, or related fields, with a proven track record of success in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environments and the ability to provide strategic advice on regulatory matters.
  • Experience in providing M&A communications consulting, including managing communication during complex transactions.
  • Proven business development skills, with a track record of securing new clients and expanding existing relationships.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to provide trusted counsel to C-Suite executives, demonstrating a deep understanding of business dynamics.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to lead and inspire a corporate communications team.

What You Will Do:

      Client Service

  • Keep client programs on schedule and ensure all deadliness are met
  • Structure long term plans and program recommendations for clients
  • Earn the confidence of mid-to-senior level client contacts and other executives with a client’s organization 
  • Plan and implement programs; forecast and manage budgets, profitability and receivables for new and existing clients  
  • Proactively handle client problems quickly and adeptly
  • Serve as senior contact for client
  • Contribute to and promote business development by counseling clients  
  • Develop and deliver client presentations  
  • New Business Development
  • Actively participate in new business initiatives including taking a lead role in research and scooping of new business opportunities as requested. 

 

      Media relations

  • Drive the development of appropriate digital/social media strategies and programs and deliver results
  • Know the industry’s issues that directly and indirectly affect the client  
  • Demonstrate a well-developed knowledge of relevant social media platforms and digital channels
  • Generate ideas for digital/social media campaigns and oversee planning and execution
  • Implement special events such as onsite photo/video shoots that are part of digital programming

 

 

      Team Management

  • Generate new business from existing clients and new clients by developing programs, making credentials presentations, presenting program recommendations and pursuing new business leads
  • Act as key contact for internal account staff to address issues
  • Make account assignments
  • Train and motivate team members
  • Manage account staff group profitability
  • Contribute to performance reviews  
  • Create opportunities for team members to enhance growth with agency
  • Strategically evaluate contributor’s strengths and assemble team accordingly
  • Make recommendations regarding salary increases, promotions, etc
  • Track team results against client’s goals
  • Attend account reviews and staff meetings – provide ongoing communications and feedback
  • Ensure account team members adhere to agency time reporting and financial guidelines
  • Participate in systems improvement
  • Involved in staffing of team including reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates

 

 

      Administrative Support

  • Negotiate fees with clients/prospective clients
  • Manage the time spent by each team member to ensure the team is on budget
  • Create accurate budget estimates for client for long term and short term programs
  • Monitor group budgeting and revisions in a timely manner
  • Track/enter time in a precise and timely manner
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned  

 

 

What You Will Need:

  • 8 – 10 years or more related professional experience
  • Proven experience in digital communications and digital marketing
  • Language Skills: Native-level Korean / Business to Native-level English proficiency
  • Excellence in documentation and report writing
  • Active personal experience managing social media or blog channels
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing trends and best practices
  • Experience in managing multiple social media platforms
  • Demonstrated success in influencer marketing campaigns
  • Analytics and data-driven decision-making skills

PR Manager - Senior Manager

Weber Shandwick Korea is seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about communications and excels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our global clients in various communications-related projects.

What You Will Do:

  • Work with clients to develop creative and innovative initiatives to support brand strategy, brand awareness, and PR;
  • Develop and present relevant market research and analysis on client competitors, related industries, and current issues
  • Support global companies’ entry into the Korean market by consulting clients on marketing strategies and client targets;
  • Support Media Relations-related tasks, such as writing news releases, arranging interviews, and planning/managing press-related events.

What You Will Need:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience PR and Communications industry, ideally in an agency environment
  • Fluent Korean and English Proficiency (Ability to do business smoothly in Korean and English);
  • Knowledge of media and social media practices.

Preferred Experience:

  • Related experiences in the communication field
  • Experience of research and insights
