Weber Shandwick New York is looking for a EVP of Strategic Planning, Health, to join our growing team and fuel communications and creative strategies for the world’s biggest, best-known and most innovative healthcare, biotech and pharmaceutical companies through corporate, product, disease state awareness and equity campaigns targeting patient communities, HCPs and a wide range of stakeholders.  

About you: You’re an expert strategic leader, trusted client advisor, and nurturer of talent. You are a highly collaborative, original and clear thinker who is endlessly curious. Your curiosity helps you empathize with everyone from people recently diagnosed with cancer to dermatologists trying to choose between varying atopic dermatitis treatments. You are able to frame a problem, develop succinct insights, and explain what it all means and why it’s important in a compelling story. You understand diverse media platforms and technology. You’re open-minded, battle-tested, inclusive and empathetic. You know how to develop strategies that can earn attention. And you can quickly pivot with the unpredictability of today’s business and communications challenges. 

NYC residency is a plus, but not required. 

Here’s a snapshot of the role: 

  • Develop strategic vision for healthcare communications strategies from start to finish, including execution and performance evaluation for a limited number of clients and new business opportunities.  
  • Lead, collaborate and nurture strong relationships with integrated teams in client experience, analytics, creative and media to develop and implement flawless execution and creative plans informed by strategic vision. 
  • Leads new business pitches (organic and net new), integrating across teams and weaving the strategic vision throughout the new business process. 
  • Contributes to sharing best practice, case studies and thought leadership both internally and externally. Participates in external visibility, speaking engagements, media coverage. 
  • Holds strategic planning team accountable for performance, adherence to quality. 
  • Reports to regional strategic planning lead, plays an active role in team development, and manages, supervises and mentors talented and eager junior strategists. 
  • 10-15 years’ experience (preferably in corporate communications and/or advertising).

NYC Salary range: $250,000 – $300,000

 Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of communications experience, preferably in an agency environment or a sports property
  • Strong sports media, men’s lifestyle, pop culture and influencer relations skills and relationships at the national, regional and trade/vertical level
  • Previous consumer packaged goods and related industries experience is a bonus, but not required
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills; verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills
  • Open to giving and receiving constructive and respectful feedback in a timely manner
  • Desire to continuously learn new skills and knowledge, and willingness to always share skills and knowledge with team members as well as clients
  • Commitment to personal accountability
  • BA or BS in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field

Candidate Qualities  

As an Associate, you will have the unique opportunity to help drive communications around key financial moments for a client, including quarterly earnings and transactions. As a part of the broader Corporate Issues team, you will also have the opportunity to work on reputational issues such as recalls, litigation and cyber events. You will be working directly with senior leadership to help drive research, develop materials, build media lists, scope work, support new business, and balance multiple shifting priorities in real-time. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate follows markets and financial news as well as other current events and is able to translate that knowledge into actionable insights for clients. A strong academic record is necessary, and experience in financial communications is preferred – but candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What You Will Be Doing   

  • Serves as key team member to support a range of complex, high-profile financial transactions (i.e., mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, spin offs, divestitures, etc.)  
  • Supports development of press releases, media strategies, media lists, talking points, FAQs, memos, media monitoring and other deliverables as needed
  • Conducts pressing research on a wide range of issues, review and prepare executive summaries and/or analyses detailing clear and concise findings, distill complex and substantial amounts of information into concise summaries and insights; begin to propose strategic and actionable recommendations  
  • Provides input during development of projects based on insights and knowledge of client preferences  
  • Prepares for and takes part in client meetings, including accurately capturing notes, agenda action items, call recaps, updating trackers, timelines and status documents 
  • Serves as role model to team members, producing high quality work and continually updating manager on activity progress 
  • Actively builds own knowledge, contributes to inclusive team culture and consistently displays behaviors that support integration 
  • Participates in our A-Team’s On-Duty rotational schedule covering evening and weekend hours, to handle critical client reports, ad-hoc research, and support emerging issues or crises

A snapshot of the role

We are looking for a mid-level Strategist with a communications or creative agency background to join our Strategic Planning team in Geneva. Reporting to the Head of Strategy, the successful candidate will support the development of insight-based creative ideas and impactful campaigns to support our brand and clients’ communications and business objectives, through integrated communications, including earned, owned and paid.

In this role, you will be involved in all elements of strategy including creating and analyzing data and market trends, shaping market research, developing strategy, solving brand challenges and working closely with creative teams to develop creative ideas. The successful candidate will partner with the wider team, including specialists from analytics, creative, design, production, integrated media and client experience to develop and deliver impactful client solutions. You will play a key role in supporting both new business pitches, organic growth opportunities, and existing client work.

What will you be doing?

  • Previous experience in marketing/communications strategy and planning ideally within a strategy department or communications agency.
