Weber Shandwick Introduces wpForGlass

Weber Shandwick has developed wpForGlass, a new innovation that is the first-ever WordPress plugin to allow Google Glass Explorers to publish directly to a self-hosted WordPress blog. Created by Weber Shandwick’s innovation team led by Ozzy Farman, senior vice president of Technology and Innovation, and Greg Swan, senior vice president of Brand Innovation and Digital Strategy, wpForGlass is an open-sourced plugin now available for download to all Glass Explorers.

Weber Shandwick Introduces wpForGlass

Mashable took a first look at the wpForGlass innovation, noting how the new technology gives media organizations and bloggers a way to post and update content, such as stories, photos and videos, directly through their eye wear in real time. “Instead of pulling out a phone or camera to take a picture that needs to be posted online right away, this is so much easier,” Ozzy Farman told Mashable.

wpForGlass is the most recent example of Weber Shandwick’s long history of innovation dedicated to supporting clients in the Era of Engagement. Other such innovation solutions include:

  • FireBell, our award-winning, proprietary application that allows clients to participate in real-time online crisis simulation drills in a secure, off the-internet environment;
  • Mediaco, our content creation and distribution unit built to deliver a comprehensive approach to publishing; and
  • GoLive, our real-time production and live-streaming capability that incorporates live storytelling, broadcast quality-production and social distribution, extending the reach and impact of client events.

In his piece on “Rethinking Real-Time in the Age of Glass,” Greg Swan outlines the implications of wearable technology, such as wpForGlass, on real-time marketing.  “As more consumers publish and consume content on the fly through smartphones, smart watches and smart glasses, brands will need to adapt their outlook on real-time and evolve their content publishing strategies.”

As Google Glass and other wearables shift from early adopters to everyday users, Weber Shandwick is looking ahead to solutions in wearable technology as the next frontier of real-time publishing. To learn more about wpForglass and download the plugin, visit http://labs.webershandwick.com/.
