After President Trump issued an executive order temporarily banning travel to the U.S. from seven countries (later reduced to six), protests erupted in the U.S. and around the world. More than 150 companies and CEOs also responded to this executive order.
Due to our ongoing research on CEO activism, Weber Shandwick examined these corporate responses to the president’s executive order. We developed an inventory of company and CEO responses and analyzed them using several criteria. We found that 84% of the 153 responses in our inventory were issued by CEOs. 73% of responses voiced a clear opinion against the ban and 48% of the companies took action beyond issuing a statement, including donating to charity or filing a legal document.
