The Chicago office of Weber Shandwick is seeking a Social Art Director to join our collaborative team and craft fun, shareworthy social content for some of our largest clients. As a social art director, you’ll be hands-on during the entire creative process. Brainstorming concepts. Pitching ideas. Designing social content. And working with copywriters, social strategists and others to bring the ideas to life. You should know what type of content resonates on social and be curious about our client’s brands and businesses. You should also be comfortable shooting lo-fi social content on an iPhone—at various locations including controlled studio sets, on the street, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Craft content that helps build brands with social-first thinking and shareworthy executions
  • Stay current on social trends, and look for opportunities to incorporate them into your art direction
  • Ongoing development of new ideas, creative concepts, designs and art treatments
  • Present ideas and executions to internal stakeholders
  • Provide artistic direction for video-based ideas with the complete understanding of the types of video formats that work best across various social networks
  • Ensure all creative adheres to existing brand guidelines and social best practices
  • Wear multiple hats: we’re a collaborative and supportive team, so you’ll have the opportunity to play multiple roles throughout concepting and execution phases
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to turn ideas into social content gold!


Skills and Requirements

  • 3+ years of art direction or design experience in an agency or related field (advertising, digital, social media, publishing/content or public relations)
  • Must be a self-starter, with a record of working collaboratively, quickly and with minimal oversight
  • An understanding of what works — and doesn’t — in social media
  • Innate curiosity and ‘in the culture’ mentality
  • The ability to work under pressure and hit deadlines
  • Portfolio (share anything that conveys the way you think or approach assignments, even if it was never produced; we like chicken scratches)
  • Bonus Skills: blogging, journalism, social community management, filmmaking, videography, editorial, art direction, design, illustration, photography

Job Description:

Requirements 

  • 15+ years of related professional experience within an agency, consulting or corporate setting(15+ research experience; 10+ analytics experience) 
  • Proven ability to counsel Fortune 100 clients 
  • Talent development experience and skill in building, leading, coaching, and motivating research and analytics teams 
  • Ability to derive relevant insights from diverse sources of data, both qualitative and quantitative, including published sources, syndicated data, and proprietary data, and then translating those insights into specific media strategies and recommendations 
  • Health sector experience, ideally designing and delivering solutions for payor, provider, pharma and/or major health systems in the US. 
  • Ability to design research, analyses, and test plans to explore hypotheses such as optimizing communications regarding creative and channel mix 
  • Passion for innovation and technology 
  • Behavioral Science experience is a plus 

Skills 

  • Experience using media/marketing intelligence, social listening or other research tools such as: Talkwalker, Brandwatch, GlobalWebIndex, NewsWhip, Meltwater, Cision, Quid, Affinio, Simmons/MRI and/or Comscore 
  • Experience with data visualization tools and approaches (e.g., Tableau, Datorama, Google Data Studio) for reporting and dashboards 
  • Experience directly conducting primary research (either qualitative or quantitative) end-to-end (i.e., designing, fielding, analyzing and reporting out data) 
  • Experience turning raw, unstructured data into insights, stories, and strategies 
  • Experience pitching new business and leading or supporting complex RFP submissions 
  • Hands-on experience in managing data and data mining 
  • Ability to develop frameworks for steering complex insight/analytics projects

NYC Salary range: $250,000 – $300,000

POSITION PROFILE

We are seeking an Freelance Art Director with strong digital design expertise to join our creative team. We are looking for someone with the right combination of conceptual approach, self-motivation, and artistic skills necessary to create, sell, and execute impactful ideas for our clients. This person will be instrumental in defining the conceptual approach and design direction for a variety of brands and assignments across a wide range of communication strategies and channels. They need to be obsessive about big ideas and making things look great. Brand consistency, a passion for type and design, and the ability to visually convey their ideas through beautiful comps and presentations must be in their DNA. We are looking for a specific type of person, someone who embodies talent and decency in equal measure.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Crafting stories and building brands through campaign-level thinking and execution
  • Ongoing development of new ideas, creative concepts, and design solutions
  • Creation of production-ready designs and layouts, establish the look/tone/feel for campaigns and executions and convey ideas through well-designed presentations
  • Ensure all visual design adheres to existing brand guidelines
  • Work with creative directors, copywriters, producers, clients, and other team members to flesh out the creative development of ideas and tactical executions
  • Translate video story ideas into visual approaches through storyboards, framing, location scouting, set design and wardrobe recommendations, etc.
  • Develop original concepts across print, digital, social and video disciplines and see through to completion
  • Mentor junior staff

CORE REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-5 years of Art direction and/or design experience in a related agency or department (advertising, PR, digital, social media, and/or publishing/content)
  • Art education in advertising design and conceptual thinking is preferred
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and accurately within all required aspects of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) as well as presentation tools such as PowerPoint and Google Slides
  • Must be self-motivated, hard-working, well-organized, and resilient to ever-changing timelines, requests, and deliverables
  • Must be passionate about design in the digital and social space, with an understanding of platforms and formats such as Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, AR and VR
  • Ongoing drive to understand emerging techniques, trends and philosophies in design, technology, interaction, social media and storytelling through content
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
