The Role
The Health team is excited to announce a new Manager position. The Manager will have an overview of the whole account and actively drive day-to-day work forward and bring excellent experience in media relations. They will utilise their established communications skills to produce high-quality work, whilst providing direction, support and coaching for junior members of the account team.
Responsibilities include:
- Drives day-to-day management of tactics/projects within a client programme
- Ensures clients are regularly updated and leads day-to-day client correspondence (written or verbal) on the tactics/projects they are responsible for
- Provides clear briefs and delegates workload appropriately, managing junior and senior colleagues to make best possible use of time and expertise
- Independently plans ahead to ensure project-critical resources plus key staff (internal and external) are available when needed to ensure timely delivery of all projects. This includes adhering to project plans and reporting on progress to the team lead
- Proficiently prepares and reviews key materials and client correspondence, and contributes to more complex materials such as plans and new business proposals
- Has an understanding of the ABPI regulatory framework, as well as of the NHS and major European health systems
- Has knowledge of the key healthcare media outlets and types of healthcare stories that are reported and why
- Understands the strategic overview of their account(s) and is able to contribute to strategic plans
- Assists senior team in setting and meeting the KPIs agreed for client programmes
- Financial management experience – Has a good understanding of fee and costs in order to assist the senior team in developing and monitoring budgets to ensure profitability for each account
- Takes responsibility for internal budgetary processes, including budget trackers and team resource hours
Who are you?
- Experience in a media/PR agency and/or press office
- Experience within healthcare PR/communications, notably rx/pharma product PR
- Experience working across both global and domestic (UK) accounts
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the NHS and major European health systems plus relevant global agencies (i.e. World Health Organization (WHO)) and have a comprehensive understanding of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI)
- Proven experience developing relationships with media contacts
- Passionate about media relations and health communications

What will you be doing?

What is the role?
We are looking for an Account Director, Integrated Media to join one of the most exciting healthcare teams in the business, with a track record of securing prominent placements for scientific breakthroughs and unsung health injustices. You will be the go-to point of contact for media counsel across a range of growing accounts, working closely with the Vice President (VP)/Head of Media for Health. No day will look the same: you might be called on to devise a handling plan to increase awareness of a forgotten disease, take to the phones to pitch in a story about cutting-edge scientific research, or dive into a new client proposal.
The Account Director (AD) will be proficient at leading day-to-day account work and able to demonstrate agile strategic thinking based on their own judgement and knowledge. They will be responsible for managing account team members, and will play a driving role counselling clients and building the business base.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop integrated earned and paid media strategies for current and new clients
- Oversee and implement media campaigns to achieve high-quality coverage and minimise issues around client activities
- Advise and work within matrix teams including client experience, digital, creative and strategy, to integrate media into client programmes
- Prepare media and briefing materials for a range of platforms and to help clients communicate effectively
- Establish strong relationships with key local and international health media across print, broadcast and online
- Act as the primary point of client contact, leading calls/meetings and providing advice on media handling leveraging industry knowledge/experience
- Participates in growth and business development with new/existing clients across the network
- Project management including budget oversight, internal resourcing and supplier contracting
- Coach and develop direct reports/junior staff

What’s happening?
Weber Shandwick is looking for an Internal Communications Manager to work with our UK and EMEA management teams to lead our organisational messaging strategy. You’ll be the first point of contact for all Weber Shandwick news and employee engagement, using the right combination of touchpoints, in the most engaging way.
What will you be doing?
- Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with senior leadership teams in UK & EMEA, including EMEA CEO, UK CEO, Senior Talent Leaders, EMEA Market Leaders, Marketing & Communications and People Teams, which ladders up to the UK/ EMEA business & communications plans and priorities.
- Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums and engaging internal events
- In line with company vision and mission, devise internal initiatives in order to fully engage employees. Ensure internal initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders
- Draft messages/ scripts from senior executives for presentation to employees in written or spoken form
- Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organisation
- Work with EVP, Marketing & Comms and External Comms Manager to ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages
- Respond to feedback from employee focus groups / employee surveys and build on strategy and communications content accordingly
- Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect employees, in collaboration with senior management and external comms lead
- Advise senior executives of developments throughout the organisation, be the eyes and ears and take the temperature regularly
- Work with global comms/ internal comms teams and IPG to ensure connected thinking where relevant
- Review tools, systems & processes in order to implement the best, most effective internal communications ‘machine’, including the EMEA intranet
- Manage internal meetings/ webcasts/ events
- Develop engaging visual content for internal channels and external channels, including social media assets, aligned with the brand and external comms strategy
- Working closely with the People Team, develop innovative, forward thinking ideas to socialise and embed the new global Employee Value Proposition (‘Opportunity grows within a collective)
Work closely with and report to the WS Global Communications/Talent team to ensure cohesive internal communications
Who are you?
- You’ll have experience in a communications team, ideally internal communications, for a large or complex organisation
- Experience of writing for a variety of different audiences across a variety of platforms
- Prior management of complex projects and confidence advising senior managers
- Experience in design, particularly in creating visual content for platforms like intranets, newsletters, social media assets and presentations
Key skills required:
- Writing skills: Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees
- Communication skills: Strong verbal communication skills that give the internal teams confidence in you and the organisation
- Interpersonal skills: Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with Communications and People Teams. Confidence to deal with senior executives and to guide them on best practice for internal comms
- Creative skills: Creative ability to devise communication strategies and execute in the most engaging way
- Technical skills: Use of Adobe suite to create still and moving content (preferred). Knowledge & experience of Microsoft 365 to manage the WS intranet, which uses Microsoft SharePoint. Generally, technically savvy to switch between new and emerging platforms to deliver the best content for our people.
