Vice President, Applied Data Science

We are looking for a Vice President, Applied Data Science to be part of a successful data science team in a high-growth environment. This person will lead a team tasked with developing advanced analytics solutions to help clients measure and optimize the impact of their marketing and communications activities, including experimentation, media mix modeling, regression and Bayesian based methods and causal modeling.

  • You have hands-on experience developing data science solutions from concept to production using open-source tools and modern cloud computing platforms.
  • Statistically-minded. You have built models, validated them and back tested them. You know how to interpret a confusion matrix or a ROC curve. You have experience with marketing mix modeling, causal modeling, Bayesian analysis, multivariate and time series analysis and A/B testing. Solid understanding of fundamental statistical concepts (probability, multi-variate testing), experimental design, and measurement methodologies, particularly marketing mix and regression-based techniques.
  • Experience with analytics and data science methodologies designed to evaluate marketing ROI or ROAS.
  • Excellent communication skills with a history of building and maintaining internal and client relationships.
  • Experience leading highly successful teams.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communicator with good presentation skills
  • Solid knowledge of advanced machine learning techniques (ex. Arima, Bayesian, Logistic Ridge regression, XG boost) and other algorithms, and integration into analytics workflows
  • 8+ years Data Science experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience leading Data Science teams and managing deliverables.
  • Proficiency coding in Python, R or equivalent
  • Experience with marketing analytics and media mix modeling

Qualifications

We Are Seeking: 

The Manager, Analytics will join the Central Analytics + Intelligence team to focus on delivering insightful and impactful analytics core to the marketing and communications objectives of our clients. Ideal candidates will be excited about evangelizing for the analytics discipline and fluent in the various technologies, platforms and best practices that define the online communications and marketing space. 

The position will directly report to and work with the Central office but may support teams across all North American practice areas. This position will be dedicated to several of Weber Shandwick’s largest and most important client relationships.   

In this role, you will be a key contributor to Weber Shandwick’s Analytics Intelligence team, tasked with implementing and developing innovative measurement strategies, leading business intelligence efforts, mentoring a team of junior team members and executing analyses designed to drive deep understanding of consumer behavior and communications performance. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with Analytics + Intelligence and cross-function teammates to create visually compelling reporting and insights that allow client to easily evaluate performance relative to business objectives. 
  • Develop and apply strategic measurement frameworks to form the basis of ongoing performance assessment and optimization across paid, earned and owned channels. 
  • Clean, sort, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources such as social media, website analytics platforms, and third-party vendors. 
  • Develop report structure and data analyses to provide visualizations, business strategy and actionable insights, including but not limited to:  
  • Conversation analysis (social listening and media intelligence) 
  • Social, campaign and multichannel reporting 
  • Paid campaign analysis and performance audits 
  • Contribute to the design of research/analysis, intelligence gathering, and data collection 
  • Identify patterns and trends that can inform recommendations that shape clients’ marketing strategies. 
  • Work with data analysts to optimize statistical techniques and plan for ongoing reports.
  • Assist in business development activities, including scope design, strategic analysis, slide preparation and work planning. 
  • Maintain strong knowledge of both well-established and new-to-market digital marketing analytics tools and platforms. Use that knowledge to continuous inform and enhance the work. 
  • Evangelize the use of data to inform decision-making at all levels internally and externally with clients and other agency partners. 
  • Educate non-technical account team members on key requests and analysis process. 
  • Mentor new and junior team members 

Basic Qualifications 

  • 5+ years relevant full-time experience; preferably in Marketing Analytics, Consumer Insights, Marketing Science or Performance Marketing fields. 
  • Strong interest and capacity to identify trends, translate data and research into strategic insights, and communicate implications effectively, within allotted deadlines 
  • Be comfortable cleaning, sorting, analyzing, and interpreting large sets of data  
  • Be able to translate data-driven findings into easily understood reports 
  • Previous experience and exposure to digital disciplines (site, CRM, media, etc.) 
  • Experience with statistical concepts and knowledge of Test/Control methodologies 
  • Knowledge of paid media efficiency metrics 
  • Experience in digital programmatic, DoubleClick Manager, Facebook Ads Manager, or other paid social platforms. 
  • Experience using media/marketing intelligence, social listening, social reporting, or other research tools such as: Talkwalker, Meltwater, Cision, Muckrack, Sysomos, Critical Mention, Quid, Brandwatch, Affinio, Comscore, Sprinklr, Sprout, or Mintel. 
  • Experience with data visualization tools including but not limited to: Tableau, Google Data Studio, Domo, Excel, etc. 
  • Experience with relational databases and programming languages such as SQL, R or Python is a plus. 
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in business or STEM preferred, Masters is a plus. 
  • Ability to work independently and in an integrated team setting.

Business Analytics Intern (Summer 2024)

Weber Shandwick, a leading global communications agency, is seeking a talented and an enthusiastic summer intern in Washington, DC, to work with our Analytics practice. 

 

Our Analytics internship is a full-time, paid program designed to complement and enhance academic studies through participation in a variety of assignments and professional responsibilities. Interns work side by side with the firm’s diverse team of strategists, analysts, producers, designers, developers and campaign activators.

 

The intern assigned to our analytics team will work on a range of projects from communications reporting and automation to machine learning, and big data integration. You’ll work on clients of all types, using diverse data sets to solve strategic business and communications problems. Our strategy Analytics interns typically meet the following profile:

 

  • Data Strategists: business analysts with basic understanding of statistics, digital analytics, and data visualization with a focus on how to use data to tell stories and build business cases

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Conduct, compile, and present analyses to inform the strategic direction of integrated campaigns
  • Carry out social media listening research to identify trends in online conversations and to pinpoint key influencers; should have basic comfort with Boolean queries or an interest in learning
  • Use web and social media analytics platforms to measure campaign and content performance and provide data-backed recommendations for optimization
  • Understand client background and needs, including general business strategy, industry issues, products and services, key customers and competitors in the marketplace

Basic Qualifications:

  • Interest in data-based storytelling or data journalism
  • Basic understanding of intersection of traditional and digital media platforms and familiarity with developments in the media industry
