Global Head of Employee Engagement & Communications

As head of employee engagement and communications, you will operate at the intersection of comms & marketing, Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and DEI. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our communications strategies aimed at fostering engagement, alignment, and a strong sense of community and belonging among our employees. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute comprehensive communication plans that effectively shape and advance our culture with current and as appropriate, prospective employees. You will partner and collaborate closely with agency leadership, the global Communications and Marketing team, our regional Chief People Officers, Head of Global Talent Development, and DEI team.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Strategic Planning: 

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic internal communications plan aligned with organizational goals and values.
  • Identify key messaging priorities and communication objectives to drive employee engagement and alignment.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust tactics as needed.

Employee Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Drive programming for internal global events and productions that connect / inspire our talent base while further connecting leadership with employees.
  • Cultivate a culture of open communication, collaboration, and transparency within the organization.
  • Empower employees to become advocates for the company’s mission, values, and brand through effective communication and storytelling.

Content Marketing Strategy:

  • Create compelling, informative, and engaging content for various internal communication channels, including emails, newsletters, intranet, digital signage, and other platforms, with a strong focus on aligning with the employee lifecycle and key moments and programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights for content creation. 
  •  Ensure consistency in messaging and adherence to brand guidelines across all internal communication materials.
  • Craft people, culture, DEI, values-oriented awards, narratives and stories that elevate TWSC’s reputation in the industry and attract new talent.

Channel Strategy:

  • Activate and elevate existing infrastructure/channels (CRM / global leadership newsletters, Intranet) to optimize and evolve employee comms.
  • Explore innovative communication tools and technologies to enhance internal communication effectiveness.
  • Monitor employee feedback and engagement metrics to gauge the impact of communication efforts. 

Change Management Communication:

  • Support organizational change initiatives by developing communication plans that address employee concerns, provide clarity, and drive adoption of change.
  • Work closely with leadership to cascade important updates and changes throughout the organization in a timely and transparent manner.

Requirements:

  • Experienced employee communications leader with a passion for and experience in driving employee engagement in a global organization
  • 10+ years of experience in employee engagement, internal communications or a related discipline
  • Successful record of building new programs, improving existing programming and supporting engagement for high-performing teams
  • Proven ability to develop strategic internal communication and effective employee engagement programs
  • Creative thinker who will challenge current ways of working and innovate using new channels and tactics to reach TWSC’s global team members
  • Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal, with experience across multiple communications channels
  • Excellent writing skills with ability to quickly adopt the tone and voice of a company and many senior leaders
  • Demonstrated success in building internal trust and strong relationships with business partners

 

NYC Salary Range: $175,000-$225,000

Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.

About The Opportunity: 

Weber Shandwick is currently seeking an ambitious senior-level Corporate PR professional for our Tokyo office to oversee key international accounts. In this role, you will cultivate strong relationships with clients both domestically and internationally, serving as the lead for account and team management, overseeing multiple projects and team members.  

Responsibilities include proposing communication programs and specific activities aligned with client goals, ensuring effective project execution, providing career development and learning opportunities for junior team members, and allocating resources in line with client budgets. Along with building strong relationships with our current clients, your responsibilities will also include contributing to new business development.  

This position holds significance not only in positively impacting society through various projects but also plays a crucial role in reputation building for Weber Shandwick. It offers an opportunity to enhance practical experience and insights at an advanced level. 

 

What You Will Do:  

  • Develop a deep understanding of clients’ business and target audience, collaborating with team members to provide solutions that meet client needs; 
  • Comprehend clients’ objectives and priorities, devising and executing PR and Communications strategies, both domestically and globally; 
  • Foster and nurture strong relationships with the media, and arrange interviews and meetings with the media and key client spokespeople; 
  • Focus on building and improving ongoing relationships with existing clients and actively seek opportunities for new business development; 
  • Cultivate positive relationships with junior members and nurture their organisational and professional development through hands-on support and mentorship; 
  • Actively participate in office activities, meetings, seminars, etc., to cultivate strong internal working relationships and enhance collaboration opportunities.  

 

What You Will Need: 

  • Fluent Japanese / English (Ability to conduct business smoothly in Japanese); 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Corporate Communications; 
  • Strong experience planning and executing corporate communications projects and product PR strategies and tactics; 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams; 
  • Strong experience in media relations (newspapers, magazines, TV programmes, SNS, influencers, etc.);  
  • Experience in planning and executing multi-channel communications strategies and tactics; 
  • Ability to efficiently navigate and utilise social media; 
  • Adept writing skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Accountable, for the successful launch, growth, and operation of United Minds in Germany 
  • Lead new business pitches and proposals including the development of strategies, tactics, resource and time plans and budgets 
  • Lead client projects and provide senior counsel to C-suite clients in various areas of organizational transformation including culture, change, and leadership effectiveness

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across The Weber Shandwick Collective and IPG who are solving complex client challenges, providing high quality counsel as part of these teams 
  • Deliver exceptional client experience, take responsibility for building senior client relationships, and proactively address issues and concerns that might affect these relationships 
  • In partnership with United Minds leadership and as a senior member of the team, help build credibility and awareness for the United Minds brand internally and externally 
  • Act as a leader within the global UM community, actively contributing to growth of the practice, our offers, and our team 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • An inspirational and galvanizing leader with a proven track record of growing business and building effective teams 
  • Fifteen or more years of experience working in organisational transformation, with a focus on culture, change, and leadership effectiveness, in large, complex, multinational organisations 
  • Strong consultative skills including project scoping, insight gathering, problem solving, strategy development, influencing, facilitation, intervention planning and excellent written and verbal communications 
  • Experience leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver exceptional work on time and budget 
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset with entrepreneurial thinking and balanced ambition, with a proven track record of winning business, often in collaboration with others 
  • Has the ability to build relationships with C-suite clients and leadership teams 
  • Has previous experience of integrating and influencing others across a network, and unlocking business opportunities from a broader client portfolio 
  • Embodies United Minds’ culture in thought and practice – collaborative, tenacious, and entrepreneurial 
  • Master’s Degree in Organizational Development or related field preferred 
  • Change management certification such as Prosci is preferable
